We’re In….

Our family has now spent two nights in our new place in the Elmwood Park neighborhood of Omaha Nebraska. We don’t have our ‘stuff’ yet – look for a future post on the adventures of hiring movers – but we do have plenty of clothes and have started to get settled. Big trips to Costco and Home Depot were exciting but reinforced the reality that we live here. You don’t buy a toilet seat and 48 rolls of toilet paper if home is somewhere else.

So far we love it.

Our neighbors had us over for dinner last night and they were fantastic. It could have gone lots of different ways but it turned out to be comforting, enjoyable and fun. There are two girls who are 12 and 10 and they were so nice to our kids Micah (5) and Noemi (2.5), not forcing them to play older kids’ games and just setting a welcoming vibe for them. Sarah and I had some nice ‘grown-up’ conversation with two very interesting people who I think will quickly become friends.

We took the kids swimming at the Jewish Community Center yesterday. Both had fun and both will be going to a day camp there starting next week. Noemi will be going to preschool there 3 mornings a week starting August 18.

In general, it seems that Noemi is having a rougher transition than Micah for this move which is opposite of what we were expecting. She’s definitely asserting her independence as a nearly three-year old, but throughout the past few days she has been alternating between clingy. loving, and downright rude. Micah is very curious and paying attention to some fascinating details like the laundry chute in our house and the wide variety of sprinklers available at home depot.
